In theory, you could use XC12YC instead of RC12YC because both are the same dimensions, but in practice, you should never do that. Other than older cars, modern lawnmowers still use the RC12YC because they don’t have any complex electronics that the EMI frequencies can interfere with.

Well, the RC12YC spark plug with only the RFI resistor is an older model used in cars that didn’t have as many sensors or advanced ECUs. So, why do the two spark plugs exist side by side? The rest of the specifications are the same, including the heat rating, dimensions, material, center electrode length, etc. Unlike XC12YC, which has a dual resistor for RFI and EMI interference, the RC12YC only has one for RFI frequencies. The RC12YC spark plug is another one from Champion, and as you will notice, the only difference it has with the previous one is in the first letter, which refers to the resistor type.
